TRENČIN MAJOLICA - Ceramics in the 18th century

The beginning of the 17th century brought new manufacturing processes in the production of ceramics in Slovakia. Potters became acquainted with new technologies which influenced them considerably. They started using white glazing [gradually they also started using different colour glazing] and the décor used four basic colours. There was a well-known workshop in Trenčín where this technology was used and where majolica was made from the end of the 17th century until 1938.

Our majolica pottery has its origins in the ceramic décors produced by this workshop in the years 1740 – 1790.
